Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia

Our visit to KL was very short - but I feel like we did everything we needed to!

We caught a late night/ early morning flight into Malaysia for a whirlwind day around a crazy city! We landed in KL and got, probably, (best case scenario) an hours sleep on the flight so we were completely exhausted - but knowing we only had 24 hours meant we had to get active ;)

We went straight to the hostel (Mathala) which was perfectly located and so central to all the tourist spots! After throwing down our bags and eating the complimentary breakfast (don't think of eggs and bacon etc - it was just peanut butter and jelly!) we caught the train to the Petronas twin towers and had the very necessary photo shoot below ;)

On the train I found that we had now acquired a fifth travel buddy, my very own ring worm (who more than likely made it from Sri Lanka thanks to the cuddles with the cutest puppy) so we had to rush to the pharmacy to get cream and annihilated the little guy!

KL has crazy shopping malls which are floors and floors high - obviously we avoided the expensive brand name shops (we are seriously on a budget!) but we indulged ourselves in the busy market streets.

The city is so big so we concentrated on the main tourist spots - Little India and China Town. We walked up and down the same streets a million times, memorised by the million stalls all selling the same things over and over again!

We even got to know the owners of stalls after rushing past so many times in a bargaining frenzy (some loved us and some hated us!!!) ;) For lunch we went to a local place in the market (a place in the middle with red tables - those were the directions we had!) and had the yummiest food with all the locals pointing and laughing at our chopstick technique! Apparently, according to the pro's, Bean has the best technique!

The Turton sisters worked their magic bargaining down prices and, after 6 hours, we left there with so many '100% real fakes' at an absolute steal! Nix and I, at the last minute, decided to head back to grab a few more bargains (we did this twice as we didn't have enough money for everything we bought last minute!) and only got home at about 10pm!

We had a number of items left redundant as we had bought some new replacements so, my idea, was to walk it down to the tramps sleeping on the streets. The others weren't so sure, but I was determined they would be greatly appreciated! Nix and I walked down and laid a handbag next to a lady and walked back to the hostel. Looking back we saw her wake up, notice it on her cardboard, tap her husband who woke up, grabbed it and threw it into the middle of the street! We were laughing but were in shock - surely someone could make use of these second hand items, but no, they didn't want them!!

We got back to the hostel and were just about to go and shower when nix and I heard a massive crash and then it sounded like a waterfall in the passageway outside our door... Just our luck - the aircon had exploded and all the water needed to be switched off! After a long dirty day this is all we needed! Thankfully, being a hostel with many floors, they said we could go upstairs to shower and clean off all the KL grubbiness!

Next morning we were in a big rush to get to the airport only to be told our flight was postponed to over an hour later, so we sat and planned the next few days in Langkowi/Thailand!

Bring on the beach!!!!
